#36: 5 Things You Learn Living in Student Accommodation

October 10, 2017

I've been living in university halls for a few weeks now and there are a couple of things that stick out. Allow me to explain...

1. The smell in the fridge never goes away

And there's never enough space in there anyway. Most likely someone's left a moldy cheese sandwich under your many microwaveable meals.

2. 8 washing machines per housing park isn't enough

Think Sunday mid-morning's a good shout? Try 3am on a Wednesday and you'll probably still have to wait years for someone to collect their wet stuff from the only one readily available.

3. Health and Safety's gone mad

Makes sense that it would since there's a whole bunch of irresponsible 18-year olds living all under one roof. All the same, 8am weekly fire alarm tests are not my favourite thing.

4. Organisation fails after week 2

Good intentions mean nothing when you realise you have no space to put all those random leaflets you accumulated during Freshers. The space under your desk is already taken by your fancy dress collection and a washing airer... where are you supposed to put all the washing up you'll "do later"?

5. House parties seemingly don't end

1am on a Monday? 3pm on a Thursday? Uni students seem to be able to throw together a good night in the middle of the afternoon, so might be worth investing in some earplugs for all occasions!

As much as these little things are annoying, uni life can be fun. It's all about finding the right crowd and knowing it's okay to say 'no' to the club if your bedroom is calling you. I might be away from home, but making my dorm room cosy means I can never resist my beauty sleep calling!

That's all for this week! Remember...
